I remember when I first met with Alyssa and Pete last winter, to discuss the plans for their Herb Garden wedding in Almonte.  As luck would have it, they lived within a walking distance of my house, and invited me to come over and chat.  I think that initial meeting lasted over 2 hours and spanned 2 beer – not because there were a ton of details to discuss, but because we got along so well and were having such a great chat.  I knew as soon as I left their house that their wedding was going to be something special, and I definitely wasn’t wrong.

They pretty much had a perfect day from beginning to end.  The weather was gorgeous, and I met them at the Brookstreet Hotel, where they each had rooms for getting ready.   They had a gorgeous ceremony, followed by an incredible reception in the barn at the Herb Garden.  The entire day was a blast.  Everyone had an incredible time, and you could feel the love and closeness with both families, and their close friends.

Congratulations, Alyssa & Peter.  You’re both incredible people, and I’m so happy that I was able to document your beautiful wedding day.  More importantly, I’m really glad that we’ve become friends.  Cheers!

Ordinarily, the business district in Ottawa is pretty sleepy after 6pm.  Most of the “night life” happens elsewhere, like the ByWard Market, Westboro or Elgin Street.  It’s usually a great opportunity to shoot, because the streets are dead, and there aren’t people walking into your shots all the time.

Well, when planning Tracy + Sing’s engagement session, what I didn’t consider was Ottawa’s RibFest on Sparks Street.  I had no idea so many people made their way down for some BBQ in the evenings.  Although parking was a bit more of a challenge than normal, I think it still worked really well, and I think my favourite image is the last one of the night, in front of one of the rib vendors.

The last time I saw Jan and Mike, it was in the middle of winter, and it was to meet for a beer to discuss their wedding plans, at their favourite pub in Aylmer, Quebec where they will be hosting the big day.  The snow was so deep that I was worried I wouldn’t make it to the meeting on time.  Hard to think-back to those days now that summer is here.

Fast forward to today, and it could not have been a nicer early summer evening.  We had a great time in Hintonburg around the iconic “City Center” complex, where Jan often visits ‘Euro-Sports’, who support their tandem bicycle needs.  We had a great time, and I think we got some cool photos!

I’m really excited for Jan & Mike’s wedding, especially because it reflects so much of themselves, as individuals and as a couple.  Jan (literally) runs an incredible charity called Won with One, where they enable blind or physically challenged people to compete in triathlons, through equipment and guiding.  Check them out!   Music is also a big passion for both of them (Mike used to play in a band), and music is going to be a big part of the wedding’s theme.   They’ve arranged to have a great band, it will be hosted at a neat pub in Aylmer, and will feature a poutine truck.  I’m in!
