When Ferenaz and Adil first began planning their wedding, Ottawa’s new Ismaili Mosque on Conroy Road was still under construction, and they had the privilege of being the very first couple to be married in this gorgeous facility.  Ferenaz and Adil are extremely involved with the local Ismaili community in Ottawa, they volunteered countless hours overseeing, assisting, and advising in the construction of their new Mosque.  In fact, when we met for their engagement photos earlier this summer, they said they had been up until 5am the night before, working on some final details.

Over 400 invited guests witnessed the beautiful ceremony, which went flawlessly.  This wedding had a few firsts for me, not only was it the first Ismaili Muslim Wedding I’ve had the privilege of shooting, but it was also the first wedding where there were 3 receptions – the first was at the Mosque, immediately after the ceremony, the second was a dinner for close family and friends, and there was a party at Play Food & Wine afterwards, for the “younger crowd”.  It was also the first wedding where I’ve had to witness planned littering – where the new bride and groom are supposed to place the pieced of the smashed clay pots into a fast-running stream or river (we did this at Rideau Falls, and I’m sure there is a lot worse than some small pieces of clay in the Ottawa River).  :)

The day was perfect, and laced with a mix of tradition and fun.  We did some photos before the ceremony, and were able to get a few more after the sun went down, before receptions #2 and #3.  Congratulations Ferenaz + Adil – all the best for this next chapter in your lives together!

I’ve known Chris for a number of years, his brother-in-law is one of my closest friends.  Although I haven’t spent a great deal of time with Chris, I can tell that he’s definitely cut from the same cloth as the rest of the Pella family – who are some of the warmest, kindest, and super fun people I’ve met.  For a simple example, in the 40 minutes I spent at Chris’ parents’ house to photograph Chris & his groomsmen getting ready, Angela (Chris’ Mother), offered me lasagna 5 times…the final time to take some to go when I was leaving.  Gotta love Italian hospitality.  :)

When I first met Kami a few years back, I could tell right away that she and Chris were a fantastic pair.  They are similar in all of the good ways, and different in other good ways…they balance each other beautifully.  They are one of those couples you meet, and immediately know that they’re great for each other, and love being together.

Their wedding day was beautiful from start-to-finish.  On an August Saturday that was forecasted for rain and thunderstorms, it ended up being gorgeous.  Their ceremony was at the stunning St. Anthony’s Parish in Ottawa’s ‘Little Italy’, followed by a beautiful reception at the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

Contratulations, Kami & Chris – thanks for letting me be part of your incredible day.

I’ve been looking forward to Dominique & Scott’s Wedding Day since I first met with them to chat about their wedding over a beer one chilly evening last winter.  They’re going to be married in the Laurentians near their family property in the Mont Tremblent area, and planning a “1st look” on top of a hill overlooking the surrounding mountains and lakes.  Their ceremony and reception will be held at a really unique venue, a converted covered bridge which is now a hall…talk about cool!  There are some other *very* cool things about this wedding, but I’ll hold-off until I share the wedding photos in September.

For their engagement photos, we met-up in Jacques Cartier Park in Gatineau, and walked along the Ottawa River in front of the Museum of Civilization.  We didn’t have to venture very far to find some cool spots for photos, I particularly love the last two…but I’m always a sucker for warm/cool colours side-by-side.
