Rebecca & Pete’s wedding day was stellar from start to finish.  Their gorgeous daughter, Ella, was soooo good all day, and it was the first not-insanely-hot day in about a month.  Their ceremony mass at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Ottawa’s Glebe neighbourhood was beautiful, and their reception at Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar was stunning.  The party lasted into the early hours of the morning, and was fantastic…

Since Rebecca is an avid runner, she wanted to do their photos at Mooney’s Bay Beach – where they have the amazing running track at the Terry Fox Athletic Facility.  The very last photo is something a little bit different for me…an “ambient light painting” shot of the dance floor during their reception.  I’m not sure yet if I love it or if it’s cheesy – leave a comment and let me know what you think!   🙂

I met-up with Ferenaz and Adil downtown this past weekend, near the National Arts Centre, for their engagement shoot.  They said that they were both exhausted from their extremely long hours (working until 6am the previous evening) volunteering with the preparation and opening of their community’s newly constructed Ismaili Mosque on Conroy Rd. near Hunt Club.  This Mosque will also be the site of their massive wedding at the end of August (500+ invited guests), I’m really looking forward to having a tour sometime next month prior to the wedding!

Their fatigue didn’t show at all in person, or in the photos – we had a great time taking photos around the outside of the NAC, as well as along the Rideau Canal.  After a really long, sticky, hot weather stretch, we were blessed with an absolutely gorgeous evening – warm & sunny, but perfectly comfortable for walking around.  I think we got some great photos – here are some of my favourites:

Vanessa & Abdeen’s actual wedding  back in December – a small, intimate marriage at Ottawa City Hall.  Vanessa contacted me in late winter, to photograph their reception/party, held at Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar, to celebrate with friends and close family.

There were a lot of firsts for me.  I think it was the first time that I haven’t first shot an engagement session before a wedding, and it was definitely the first time I have shot a wedding reception and portraits, where there actually wasn’t actually a wedding that day.  It was also my first time being able to photograph gorgeous “Wish Lantern” celebration, and my first time having 2 slobbering bulldogs included in the Wedding portraits.  Vanessa said that they were their “kids”, and who wouldn’t include their kids?

Despite being INSANELY hot (especially for Abdeen in a 3-pc suit), it was a fantastic day.  The food was outstanding, people partied until well after 2am, and Vanessa and Abdeen included some really cool touches to represent their cultures – I’m calling it “Far East meets Middle East”, including Belly Dancers, Zaffeh – a Lebanese drum & dance group, and the Asian “Wish Lanterns”, which Vanessa and Abdeen were fortunate enough to have experienced while traveling in Thailand, and wanted to share that joy & beauty with their guests.
